1. Answer any five of the following questions:
1. How was the problem of feeding the lost baby squirrels solved?
ANS- Nehru solved the problem of feeding the lost baby squirrels, with the help of a fountainpen filler. A little cotton wool had attached to it and made it an efficient feeding bottle.
2. What does narrow domestic walls’ refer to in the poem ?
ANS- In a poem, “narrow domestic walls” refer to the social barriers that divide people into groups based on caste, creed, religion, language, gender, and other factors.
3. Who sold the speaker in the poem The Chimney Sweeper’ and in what circumstances?
ANS- In William Blake’s poem The Chimney Sweeper, the speaker’s father sold him into servitude after his mother died and due to poverty. The speaker was so young that he could not yet say the word “sweep” and would instead cry and say “weep”.
4. How was the little monkey, according to Nehru, rescued ?
ANS- According to Nehru, a large monkey rescued a baby monkey by jumping down into a crowd of people who were surrounding the baby monkey.
5. What does Nalanda symbolise ?
ANS- Nalanda symbolizes the most glorious ancient Indian period.

11. Why does Nehru say about people and their patron animals?
ANS- Nehru says that different countries have adopted different animals as their patrons. Those animals are the symbols of their ambition or character. Eagle is the patron animal of the United States and that of Germany. Bull dog is the symbol of and Germany have adopted the eagle as the symbol of their countries. The lions and bull dog are of England, the fighting cock is of France. The bear is of old Russia. These patron animals mould national character. Most of them are aggressive, fighting animals, beasts of prey. It is not surprising that the people who grow up with these examples before them should mould themselves consciously after them and strike up aggressive attitudes, and roar, and prey on others. Nor it is surprising that the Hindu should be mild and non-violent for his patron animal, the cow.
12. How did the scholars of Nalanda carry the torch of knowledge to foreign countries? Give details.
ANS- Nalanda was considered a good center of learning and knowledge within the world. Scholars from different countries want to visit Nalanda to check religion and philosophy. Nalanda was also an excellent center of research. Scholars accustomed to visit Nalanda to research Buddhism. Thonim Sambhot, a Tibetan scholar was sent to Nalanda by Chang Gampo, the Emperor of Tibet to be told Sanskrit. He introduced and popularised Sanskrit and Indian knowledge in his country. He also studied Buddhistic and Brahmanical Literature under the guidance of Acharya Deva Vidya Singh.In the 8th century A.D. Acharya Shanti Rakchit, the chancellor of Nalanda University traveled to Tibet on the invitation from the Emperor. After sometime Acharya Kamal Shila, the chief authority on “Tantra Vidya” also visited Tibet. the students of Nalanda also learned the Tibetan language. They translated Buddhist and Sanskrit words into Tibetan. By presenting the whole thing in a very new way in Tibet, they gradually converted its Rakshit of Nalanda for the primary time in 749 A.D. in Tibet. It’s also believed that the Korean Scholars came to check Vinay and Abhidharma at Nalanda.
13. Discuss Where the Mind is Without Fear’ as a patriotic poem.
ANS- Patriotism means love for the country. Rabindranath Tagore was a patriotic nationalist who was ready to sacrifice everything for the well being of his country. He has a special vision of independent India. He prayed that our country should awaken into a state of ideal freedom which he calls “The heaven of freedom”. A country full of knowledge, wisdom, unity, progress, devotion was the desire of the poet Rabindranath Tagore.
