(Descriptive Type Questions)

1. Write an essay on any one of the following in about 150-200 words:

(B) – ANS- The 8th century inscription of fasoverman contains a telling description of Nalanda. The high spires of the viharas, in a row, semed to be sky high, and around them were tanks of clear water,in which floated red and yellow lotuses , interspersed by the cool shade of the mango groves.

3. Explain any one of the following:

(a) ANS- Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depths of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its.

4. Write a letter to your cousin asking him about the preparation of his upcoming examination.

5. Answer any five of the following in about 40-50 words each:

a) What privilege had Nehru at Dehradun Jail ?

ANS- When Pandit Nehru was at the Dehradun Goal, the Goal was a small place and the prisoners were kept in an old lock-up outside the goal-walls, but within the goal compound. This place was small that there was no room to walk about in it and so the prisoners were allowed every morning and evening to take walk to and fro in front of the gate.This was the privilege most valued by gandhi.

B)How was the little monkey rescued ?

ANS- The parent of the little monkey saw from the top of the high wall that a bit of string was tied round the neck of him (the baby monkey). A huge monkey suddenly jumped down into the crowd which surrounded the baby monkey. The crowd fled terrified and thus the little monkey was rescued.

d) What fault did the people find with Dasa?

ANS- The family complained that Dasa’s neglect of the garden and the lawns is responsible for the entry of the snake.

E)Why did the old lady refuse to walk on the pavement?

ANS- She refused to walk on the pavement because she believed she had got the liberty to walk where she liked.

H) Why is Latin no longer in popular use?

ANS- The difference is that English has evolved into Modern English from Old English and Latin has evolved into Romance Languages which are French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Spanish, and also English. That’s the reason people think that Latin is extinct and dead.

6.Answer any three of the following in about 100-120 words:

a) Write the summary of any one of the following

(i) three years she grew – ANS-The poem ‘Three Years She Grew in Sun and Shower’ was  a great poem which was composed by the great nature poet William Wordsworth in 1799 in Germany. The poet wrote around five poems on Lucy. It was one of the famous poems in his Lucy poems series. Lucy is a great creation of nature and the poet expresses his feelings for nature in the splendid way. According to the poet, nature can bring up a child  much better than human beings. In this poem, There is a girl child whose name is Lucy lives in the lap of nature for three years. Nature guides her very well in the natural way. Lucy is very happy in the company of nature and in the company of its objects. She learns many things from the objects of the nature like flowers, grass, leaves and clouds. Lucy becomes a healthy and lovely lady in the surroundings of Nature. But she dies at a very young age and because of that poet is very sad . The poet is very sad and emotional after remembering her memories.  This poem is all about Lucy and how nature brings up Lucy.

C) write a note on modern english.

ANS- The modern age has emerged as an era of development of science and technology combined with a deeprening sense of globalization. It is also true that English is being spoken by a large number of the world population. As such being a common language being spoekn in almost all countries it has also emerged as the langauge of trade and commerce consequently an individual needs to learn to communicate himself to others in no other language than English which could assure him a livelihood. hence one cannot do without English in the modern age as it has become as essential for survival amidst cutting competition as oxygen in for existence.

e) Translate any five into English:

i) वह पिछले सोमवार से बीमार है।- He has been ill since last Monday.

ii) क्या तुम्हें अंग्रेजी बोलना आता है ?- Do you know how to speak English?

iii) हमें बड़ों का आदर करना चाहिए ।- We should respect elders.

iv) वह घर पहुँच चुका होगा |- He must have reached home.

v) पटना एक प्राचीन नगर है। -Patna is an ancient city.

7.Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:

a) What do trees do?

ANS- Trees protect the environment and provide oxygen. They prevent soil erosion.

b) What has aggravated the ecological problems?

ANS- Excessive cutting of trees have aggravated many ecological problems.

c) Which practice have we still not stopped?

ANS- Despite many awareness campaigns, people have not put an end to the practice of cutting trees.

d) Make sentences with: Environment, Protect.

ANS- Environment- Trees protect the environment and provide oxygen.
